MATTOON — The manager of the new Borics Hair Care at Mattoon Marketplace says they do “just about anything with hair.”
That includes cuts, perms, colorings as well as sales of different hair care products, including Biolage, Paul Mitchell and Crew, said Nikki Waterman, a Mattoon resident. They also offer beauty services like waxing.
“We take care of men, women and children. We are very family oriented,” Waterman said.
The Mattoon Borics opened about four weeks ago in the new outlot building at Mattoon Marketplace. With its green and tan interior, it fits well into the Mattoon community, though that is part of the color scheme popular with the chain of hair care facilities. There are six stylists: Waterman, Haley Levingston, Brittaney Windell, Kalie Hammer, Kayley Blalock and Heidi Morgan. Five of them have strong ties to the area by being Lake Land College cosmetology graduates.
“It is nice opening in a place where all the products and equipment are new,” said Waterson.
The salon is also offering different discounts on services each month, including 20 percent on coloring in October. There are holiday specials coming next month.
The new addition to the Mattoon Marketplace takes walk-ins regularly, but welcomes appointments at 234-2900. The salon is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 9 to 6 Saturdays and noon to 5 on Sundays.
“Some people pop in from other states from the interstate,” said Levingston.
Some of their customers might be going places across the country. And some might have gone global at one time in their lives. One of the customers this week was a former Marine who wanted to go back to a military-style haircut.
Whether high style or high and tight, the Borics crew in Mattoon is prepared to handle it.
