MATTOON -- The All-American Realty Homes & Land office in Mattoon has completed its move into the former Pizza Hut location after extensively renovating the building there.
Managing broker/owner Candy Vaughan said she and her husband, Michael, opened the new All-American Realty office on Jan. 15 at 721 Charleston Ave. and installed the digital sign out front last week.
Vaughan said All-American Realty opened its Charleston office, 301 A W. Lincoln Ave., in 2012 and its first Mattoon office, 80 Broadway Ave., in 2016. She said they had a great working relationship with landlord Dean Willaredt at the Broadway location, but were ready to purchase a building of their own.
"We wanted to invest in the Mattoon community and this is a prime location," Vaughan said.
The new location is along a busy commercial corridor that carries Illinois Route 16 through Mattoon. Vaughan said the renovation of the former Pizza Hut, which closed in February 2017, started late last summer and got a lot of attention from passing motorists.
Vaughan said the renovation left the building's original exterior walls and ceiling rafters in place, but replaced almost every other component. She said the building has new air handling, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as new drywall, insulation, and windows.
The former Pizza Hunt dining room has been transformed into an open concept office area. A reception desk now occupies the space where the restaurant's front counter was located. A conference room and kitchenette fill much of the old kitchen space.
All-American Realty has retained the east and west customer entrance doors of the former Pizza Hunt building, with the east one serving as the front door. Vaughan said they plan to resurface the parking spaces around the building this summer. She added that the City of Mattoon staff has been helpful with the renovation.
Vaughan said some curious Mattoon residents have stopped by just to look over the renovated building. She plans to hold an open house sometime this spring.
All-American Realty's team of 11 full-time brokers provide residential, commercial and farmland sales services for their clients. Vaughan said they started providing three-dimensional online tours of properties three years ago.
"You can look around and view the house as you are walking through it so you can get an idea of what the house looks like," Vaughan said. She added that these online tours also offer a floor plan view and a "dollhouse" view, which shows how the various rooms align with each other.
