CHARLESTON -- The new Villas of Holly Brook assisted living community and the adjoining Reflections Memory Care community are taking reservations and preparing to open on July 1.
Unique Homes of Charleston has constructed this three-story building at 738 18th St., at the intersection with Harrison Avenue. An open house was held there on June 10. The building is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Executive Director Denise Wells said the assisted living community has 51 apartments, with studio, one bedroom, two bedroom, and two bedroom deluxe plus kitchen appliance options available. Some of these apartments have balcony or courtyard access. She said the memory care community has 21 apartments, with private and double units available.
"We ask them to bring their own furnishings so they can make the apartments like home to them," Wells said.
Each of the building's full size apartments offers bathrooms with safety bars and pull cord alert systems, walk-in closets, basic cable television, weekly housekeeping service, and individual heating and cooling units.
"That way they can keep the temperature at their own comfort level," Wells said of the individual climate control.
Wells said three buffet-style meals a day will be served in the central dining room at Villas of Holly Brook, adding that guests can dine there with residents for a small charge. She said drinks, fruit and pastries will be served there throughout the day. A small dining room with full kitchen is also available for use by residents.
In addition, Wells said the Villas of Holly Brook common area includes a cafe where residents and guests can purchase coffee, ice cream, hot dogs, and other snacks throughout the day. The common area has direct access to the courtyard, where a covered patio offers a grill and outdoor seating.
Wells said each of the two Reflections Memory Care sections has a kitchen and dining room where residents are served plated meals and can dine with guests. Reflections also has a courtyard of its own with outdoor seating and a grill.
On-site amenities at the building include a beauty and barber shop that offers manicures and pedicures, as well as laundry facilities where residents can do their own laundry or have this work done by staff. Villas of Holly Brook and Reflections Memory Care each have spas with spa baths.
Villas of Holly Brook also offers a movie theater room that will hold regular showings, fitness rooms, and craft and activity rooms. Wells said these spaces will be used for a variety of community programs, and residents can use these spaces with their children and grandchildren.
"I want it to be very family oriented," the executive director said.
Wells said the building will be staffed by approximately 60 employees, with about 15 of them being part time. She said the staff's wellness director will lead a team of registered nurses and licensed practical nurses. She said their services will include medication reminders for assisted living residents and medication administration for memory care residents.
The third floor of the building is home to the new corporate offices of Villas of Holly Brook. Wells said they were previously based out of the Unique Homes office. She said the new Charleston building is the 13th Villas of Holly Brook location.
