MATTOON -- Dr. Ronald Miller's Mattoon Eye Center has announced that it will become a division of Quantum Vision Centers on Dec. 1
Miller emphasized that he is not retiring and that he plans to continue his practice of medical and surgical ophthalmology at his building, 220 Richmond Ave. East in Mattoon, as he has for the past 34 years. He added that the staff at Mattoon Eye Center will remain the same.
Quantum, based in the St. Louis Metro East region, brings the latest technology to provide a complete system of eye care for patients at all stages of life, Miller said. He added that Quantum has ophthalmologists who specialize in treatment of retinas, glaucoma, and other aspects of eye care, offering a ready source of referrals for those patients who require more specialized care.
The Mattoon Eye Center, as a division of Quantum, is slated on Dec. 1 to add five new providers to the insurance that it accepts, Miller said. These insurance providers are Cigna, Essence, Multiplan, Humana, and United Health Care.
"We are excited about this merger, which will offer more options to our patients," Miller said. Mattoon Eye Center and Quantum seem like a perfect fit for each other, he said.
Miller said Quantum, formerly known as Illinois Eye Surgeons, has approximately 20 locations in Illinois and Missouri, including locations in Effingham and Mount Vernon.
Being a division of an organization with multiple locations will create efficiencies for management and overhead expenses at the Mattoon Eye Center, Miller said. For example, Miller said, handling Medicare and other claim filing issues is cost prohibitive for him as a solo practitioner.
Miller said the merger will allow him to focus on the quality eye care that he has provided to the area since 1980.
