Fit-2-Serve, a local grassroots, Christian-based not-for-profit organization, is excited to announce a Celebration of Community Volunteerism event. On Friday, January 5, beginning at 11:30am, we will provide a celebratory luncheon and brief presentation to honor those who have provided support to our programs. We are inviting all volunteers to bring a "date" to share in this celebration to be held at the Fit-2-Serve location at 1320 Lafayette Avenue.
We would also like to celebrate some milestones reached over the past year, including the expansion of several of our programs that now include both Williams and Riddle Elementary schools as well as St. Marys and St. Johns. In the month of November, 828 of our students participated in one of our programs: Generation-2-Generation, Farm-2-Table, Farm-2-School. During this period, volunteers provided 323 hours of service. With the encouragement and support of local nursing homes and assisted living facilities, we now bring students to 10 (ten) homes throughout the month. Fit-2-Serve was also approved and provided with a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA to assist in moving our program to the next level.
Fit-2-Serve's mission is to "equip others for works of service," and we feel strongly that it is important to celebrate the successes of this mission. As the programs and outreach have grown, many have stepped forward. However, we also feel this is only the beginning of our long-range journey to make a long-lasting difference in our community. Are you interested in making a difference? Do you have one hour each month you could commit to "making that difference?" We extend this open invitation to join us on January 5th to learn how your need to serve in your community might be matched with one of our programs.
