Make sure to join us at the premiere Business Expo in all of Central Illinois next Thursday, Oct. 5th, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Cross County Mall. We will have over 60 vendors showcasing a wide variety of products and services to the general public. Many of the largest businesses represented at the Expo got their start right here in Mattoon. They include Consolidated Communications, First-Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust, and Sarah Bush Lincoln. Make sure you stop by the "Our Town" Gallery section of the Expo to see the amazing things that happen in Mattoon on a daily basis. Many of our local manufacturing companies will be showcasing their products at the "Our Town" Gallery, including Anamet Electrical, Inc., BOCK'S Identi Company, LSC Communications and United Graphics, LLC. Sarah Bush Lincoln will also have their Mobile Mammography vehicle at the event. You can check out the Chamber website at www.mattoonchamber.com for a full list of all those participating in the Expo.

We also have a Taste of the Expo showcasing 14 vendors who will be providing their latest and greatest delectable creations from 11:30am until 2 p.m.. The small price of $5 gets you 5 tastings of the many samplings that these eateries have to offer. The hardest part will be choosing which booths to stop at. We will have, Casey's General Store, CRAVE Coffee & Cafe, Don Sol Mexican Grill, Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, Great Food and Spirits, Hunan Fine Asian Cuisine, Kep's Cooking, Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken, Mark's My Store, the Mattoon Golf & Country Club, Osaka Sushi and Steakhouse, Pauly's BBQ, Stadium Grill, and Walmart. You can get your Taste tickets in advance at the Chamber office or they will be available for purchase during the Expo. Don't miss out on the opportunity to try multiple local treats at one venue.

In conjunction with the Expo, the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Blood Drive with Community Blood Services of Illinois, who will have their Blood Mobile in the parking lot of the Mall during the Expo. Every two seconds someone somewhere needs blood. The rarest type is the one that is not on the shelf when a patient needs it. On average, one out of seven people who enter a hospital need blood. Donating blood is a simple, safe procedure and the benefit is profound-you save lives! Healthy adults over 17 years old who weigh at least 120 pounds may donate a pint of whole blood. Community Blood Services of Illinois accounts for 100 percent of the blood utilized locally by Sarah Bush Lincoln and Carle Hospitals. The Blood Mobile will be available from 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. Please contact the Chamber to make an appointment, or just stop by the Blood Mobile during the Expo. Give the gift of life!

We look forward to seeing you at the Expo and know you will have a wonderful experience.

Ed Dowd is the executive director of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce.
