SULLIVAN -- The Sullivan Chamber & Economic Development announced the winners of the 2017 annual awards, which will be presented at the SCED Annual luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Each of thei winners are stand-outs in the community of exceptional business and community members, according to a press release.
The Rev. Paul McGhghy will be recognized as the 2017 Citizen of the Year. McGhghy’s dedication and devotion to the betterment of the community is clear through his everyday actions. One of the primary ways that this has been seen is through his leadership in helping encourage and host Habitat for Humanity Care-A-Vanners. McGhghy’s quiet dedication to community and his behind-the-scenes willingness to give back to the community exemplify the criteria for the SCED Citizen of the Year.
Central Roofing will be honored as the Small Business of the Year. Business owner Will Bates and his family have built a thriving business in Sullivan. Their expansion in the community and willingness to work with and support local interests show the commitment they are making to the area.
Metro Communications will be presented the Business of the Year Award. Metro Communications functions quietly from downtown Sullivan providing fiber optic service to throughout Illinois, anyone who uses a phone in central Illinois uses their service. Zak Horn and his team at Metro are always happy to get involved with the community. Invested in making a lasting impact in the community, not only do they help with every community event, but they have also started a renovation project in 2017 to help with the restoration of historic downtown Sullivan.
Moultrie County Counseling Center will be recognized as the 2017 Community Service Organization. The Counseling Center's dedication to the community and its citizens is evident in their everyday work. Dave Cole, director, and his team at MCC are prime examples how to build community.
These award recipients will be recognized and honored at the 2017 Sullivan Chamber & Economic Development Annual Luncheon and Awards Ceremony set for Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the First Methodist Church Banquet Hall.
