Klaus -- 65th
GLEN CARBON -- Mr. and Mrs. Loren and Norma Klaus will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a special recognition during their granddaughter's wedding celebration in Oxford, Miss., in November.
Klaus and Norma Witters were married Aug. 17, 1952, at the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.
They are the parents of David Klaus of the Shenandoah Valley, Va., region; Marla (Dave) Daniels of Spring, Texas; and Amy (David) Cartwright of Fairfax Station, Va.; they also have five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Klaus met while students at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. They lived in several small towns in Central Illinois where he was a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent of schools before they moved to Metropolis in 1968 when he became the first president of Shawnee Community College where he remained until 1987. After retiring he became a realtor for several years after moving to Glen Carbon.
She was a full-time mother to three and was also the office manager at an architectural firm in Normal. Once her children were out of high school she began a career in Human Resources at Citizen's Bank in Paducah, Ky. She later operated a successful temporary employment agency in the Glen Carbon area.
They are both members of the First United Methodist Church in Troy.
