CHARLESTON -- The Telecare Program, sponsored by the CCCoA, a not-for-profit charity, announces some important reminders and updates for the coming month.

The Telecare Program, sponsored by the Coles County Council on Aging, offers the following updates and reminders for people receiving Social Security/Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicare and/or Medicaid benefits.

The Social Security Administration announced on Oct. 13, 2017, that Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) monthly benefits will increase next year. In 2018, beneficiaries will receive a 2 percent cost-of-living adjustment. Social Security beneficiaries will begin to see the increase in January 2018 and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will see the increase begin effective Dec. 29, 2017. Related 2018 Medicare Part B premium and Medicare Part A and Part B deductibles have yet to be announced.

The Telecare Program would like to remind people with Medicare that the 2017 Medicare Open Enrollment began on October 15, 2017, and runs through Dec. 7, 2017. During this period, people with Medicare can review and make plan changes for Medicare Advantage (MA) or Prescription Drug Plans (Part D) for 2018. You still have time to contact the Telecare Program at 217-639-5166 to schedule an appointment to review your 2018 plan options and changes. The Telecare Program reminds people with Medicare and/or Medicaid that Fall is the time of year to watch for time sensitive benefit renewal, redetermination or loss of coverage notices.
