MATTOON -- Fit-2-Serve, a local grassroots, Christian-based not-for-profit organization, is excited to announce a Celebration of Community Volunteerism event. This Friday, beginning at 11:30 a.m., they will provide a celebratory luncheon and brief presentation to honor those who have provided support to their programs. They are inviting all volunteers to bring a "date" to share in this celebration to be held at the Fit-2-Serve location at 1320 Lafayette Avenue, Mattoon.
They also plan to celebrate some milestones reached over the past year, including the expansion of several of their programs that now include both Williams and Riddle Elementary schools as well as St. Mary's and St. John's. In the month of November, 828 of their students participated in programs including Generation-2-Generation, Farm-2-Table, and Farm-2-School. During this period, volunteers provided 323 hours of service. With the encouragement and support of local nursing homes and assisted living facilities, they now bring students to ten homes throughout the month. Fit-2-Serve was also approved and provided with a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA to assist in moving their program to the next level.
For those who have one hour each month they could commit to making a difference in the community, they extend this open invitation to join them on Friday to learn how to be best matched with one of their programs.
