MATTOON -- Student representatives for the Mattoon Middle School (MMS) Reading Committee and committee adviser and MMS reading teacher Ingrid Minger visited the Kiwanis Club of Mattoon on Jan. 24 to present this year’s Read Across Mattoon book selection.

The book, titled, “I Will Always Write Back: How One Letter Changed Two Lives,” was written by Caitlyn Alifirenka and Martin Ganda. The students discussed the selection process and why this title was chosen. The public is invited to participate in this program by reading the book and returning a postcard provided by the committee with comments on the book.

Books are free to students and community members by contacting the MMS office. Participants are asked to share their books when they are finished.

The students were also excited to a announce that co-author Martin Ganda is scheduled to give a presentation at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 in the Lone Elm Room at the Mattoon train depot.

The Kiwanis Club has been a long-term supporter of this initiative and presented the MMS Reading Committee with a check for $500 for the Read Across Mattoon program.
