DECATUR -- Charlie L. Brown received his first set of wings from the Navy during World War II and was blessed with his second set from Jesus on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Charlie was born December 2, 1924 in Hillsboro, Illinois to the late Fred M. and Margaret (McFarlane) Brown and was the third of four children. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII and continued to serve in the reserves for another fifteen years. Charlie attended Eastern Illinois University graduating in 1949 with his Bachelors. He was employed 34 years with Standard Oil of Indiana, later known as BP Petroleum.
He married Norma C. Myers on December 19, 1951 and they had one son, Charles F. Brown who preceded them in death. Charlie and Norma were married for 66 years.
A visitation and a celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Central Christian Church in Decatur, Illinois. A graveside service and inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston with Masonic Services and Military Services. Memorial donations may be made to the Decatur Central Christian Church and may be mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
