CHARLESTON -- Clinton Eugene Hampton, age 85, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Charleston, Illinois, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at Hospice of the Valley.
The funeral service honoring his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Caudill-King Funeral Home with Reverend James L. Hayes officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Mattoon. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Clint was born June 14, 1932 in Coles County, Illinois, son of Albert J. and Opal Ida (McMahan) Hampton. He married Cheri Delores Hayes in 1954; she survives. Also surviving are four children: Robert Eugene Shick of Ft. Wayne, IN, Clinton Michael Hampton of Waynedale, IN, Twila Marie Hewlett of Phoenix, AZ, Shelly Waddell of San Diego, CA. One brother: William Hampton of Charleston, as well as thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Albert Randall Hampton; one sister: Wanda Posey; and two brothers: Wayne Hampton and James L. Hampton.
Clint was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He held memberships in V.F.W. Post #1421 and the American Legion Post, both in Ft. Wayne. Clint worked as a plumber, first at Swifty’s Plumbing and then he worked for and retired from the Ft. Wayne School District.
