NEOGA -- Delores M. Holmes, age 96, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family, Friday, December 15, 2017 at 6:50 P.M. at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga, IL.
The funeral service in her honor will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Mitchel-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938, with Pastor Virgil Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service begins.
Delores was born October 20, 1921 in Jasper County, the daughter of Walter and Vista (Bohannon) Lewis. She married Frank S. Holmes July 27, 1947 in Decatur, IL. He passed away September 28, 1993.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra L. Harvey and husband Bradley of Effingham, IL; two grandchildren, Brad Easter and wife Julia of Channahon, IL, Brian Harvey and wife Jamie of Carterville, IL; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jean Chestnut Woods of Tuscola, IL, Virginia McKinney of Dietrich, IL, Terry Fritschle and husband Dean of Newton, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Ronald L. Wheat, two brothers, Walter “Bud” and Bill Lewis, and two sisters, Lorene Britton and Gerlene Shamhart.
Delores and her husband formerly owned and operated Holmes TV& Repair in Mattoon, IL.. She was previously employed at RR Donnelley and Brown Shoe Factory in Mattoon. She was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church of Mattoon, IL. She was a former member and Greeter of East Harrison Church of God, as well as Winebrenner Memorial Chapel, where she was an organist and Sunday school teacher. Delores devoted her time volunteering to assemble bibles for missionary work. She loved cross word puzzles and to crochet, making beautiful doilies and Afghans.
