MATTOON — Olen Ed Farris, 67, of Mattoon, passed away at 2: 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday May 2, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Church with Reverend Dennis Kollross celebrating. Burial will follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 1, 2013 at Schilling Funeral Home, 1301 Charleston Avenue, Mattoon, IL.

Ed was born on April 23, 1946 in Mattoon, IL, the son of Olen and Susanna (Edwards) Farris. He married Sharon Williams on September 30, 1973.

Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Sharon; daughter Lisa (Timothy) McKelvey of Effingham, IL; son, Todd (Emma) Farris of Mattoon, IL; five grandchildren, Tyler (Benita) McKelvey, Trevor (Kristen) McKelvey , Jacquelyn McKelvey, all of Effingham, IL, Ella Farris and Beau Farris of Mattoon, IL; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia (Rex) Brown of Mattoon, IL and Kathy (Gary) Deckard of Mt. Zion, IL; three nieces, Dawn Harlin, Shawn Ames and Jamie Whitaker; two great nephews and one great niece. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Ed was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. He was a former member of the Eagles, Masons, and Moose Clubs. Ed enjoyed fishing. Every morning he ate breakfast at the Downtown Diner. Ed appreciated a good conversation and never met a stranger. Most of all, Ed loved spending time with his family.

Memorial donations in his honor are suggested to the Barnes Jewish Hospital.

Ed and Sharon have been coming into eat where I work for years. I always enjoyed talking with them. Ed always tried to get the "one over on me" I nicknamed him "Bud". I am so sorry for your loss Sharon..the world has loss a wonderful man..and heaven has gained another angel.
