MATTOON -- George Leslie Hardin, age 87, of Mattoon passed away at 2:32 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Funeral services honoring his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Curt Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Windsor Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15 at Schilling Funeral Home.
George was born on July 4, 1930 in Mattoon, the son of Willis and Nellie (Lynn) Hardin. He married Alice Sanders on August 18, 1962.
Survivors include his loving wife, Alice Hardin of Mattoon, IL, children, Keith Wakefield of Mattoon, IL, Karen Butler of Mattoon, IL and Carl (Debra) Hardin of Windsor, IL; brother, Sam (Irene) Hardin of Honea Path, SC; sister, Sheila Gumm of Sandoval, IL; grandchildren, Heather (Jonathan) Knox of Manhattan, KS, Jason (Brandi) Livingston of Greer, SC, Sarah (Kyle) Rabe of Mattoon, IL, Shawnee (Josh) Markland of Erwin, TN, Cheyenne Hardin of Windsor, IL, Devon Livingston of Windsor, IL; and 12 great grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Delbert, Vernon, Willis Norman Jr. and Raymond; and his great grandson, Jonathan Jr.
George was a member of the East Harrison Street Church of God. He loved gospel music and enjoyed attending concerts. He was an avid Cardinal Fan and enjoyed fishing. Most of all, George cherished spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
