TOLEDO, Ohio -- Harvey passed away December 28, 2017 in Toledo, OH. He was born in Evanston, IL, on March 13, 1957 and adopted by Sidney and Harriett Steele of Charleston, IL, on June 6, 1957. He developed a passion for radio early in his life, broadcasting play-by-play for Charleston High School football and basketball games on WEIC while he was still in high school. Following graduation from Illinois State University, he was hired by WTOD/WKKO in Toledo, OH. He and on-air partner Gary Shores were recognized by the Country Music Association in 1995 as having the best country radio show in the nation. Their show was number one in the region for over 20 years and held that position at the time of his passing. His other passion was informing others of the need for organ donors, having received a liver transplant in 1997. He is survived by his daughters, Kara Steele and Allision Kuhr, and their mother, Mary Beth Steele, all of Toledo, and his sister, Janet Steele, of Kearney, NE. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Harvey J. Steele Memorial Fund through the Toledo Community Foundation.
