MATTOON -- James D. Lewis Jr., age 70, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 8:35 P.M., Sunday, January 14, 2018 at his residence.
Burial will be held at a later date at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, IL. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
James was born on August 23, 1947, in Irvington, KY, the son of James Sr. and Dorothy (Lucas) Lewis. He married Mary Lou Lewis on February 14, 1975, in Mattoon, IL; she survives. Other survivors include his children; two daughters, Amanda Lanza of Oldsmar, FL, Mary Trader and husband Rickey of Mattoon, IL; one son, John Brewer of Charleston, IL; three grandchildren, Kera and Tyler Trader of Mattoon, IL, Dustin Brewer of Charleston, IL; one great grandchild, Silas Brewer of Charleston, IL; two half- brothers, James D. Lewis of Saginaw, MI, and David Lewis of Brownstown, IL. James is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ronald Lewis.
James honorably served our country in the Army 101st Airborne in Vietnam from 1966-1967, then went to Germany where he served with Fire Control Hawk Missiles Division from 1967-1968. He was employed by Checker Top Cab as a cab driver, previously employed by Superior Manufacturing in Mattoon, IL, and Little Fuse Manufacturing in Arcola, IL. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. James was a former member of the Eagles Lodge in Mattoon, IL. He enjoyed playing the guitar and mandolin, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. His family will miss him greatly.
