Benjamin Newton

MATTOON — Benjamin Eric Newton, 33, of Mattoon, was tragically taken from this world at 7:41 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Reverend Dennis Kollross officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at the Church. Schilling Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family with the arrangements.

Benjamin was born on September 6, 1979 in Mattoon, IL, the son of Bill and Elizabeth Ann (Fehrenbacher) Newton.

Benjamin is survived by his parents, Bill and Elizabeth Newton; two sisters, Jamia Elizabeth Newton Jones of Bloomington, IL and Julie Nicole (David) Piacinti of Denver, CO; three nephews, Joshua, Jeremy, and Jonathan Jones; grandparents, John and Mary Fehrenbacher of Olney, IL; three aunts, Susan (Jim) Haley of Olney, IL, Dannee Newton of Highland, IL and Becky (Rick) Shockley of FL; cousins, Sarah Joyce and partner Jen Garcia of Albuquerque, NM, John (Paige) Waggoner of Champaign, IL Allison (Steve) Thompson of IA, and very special cousin, Beth and Tom Kenner of Mattoon, IL. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Fred and Frances Newton.

Benjamin worked at Dimond Brothers as an Insurance Producer. He had worked at Dimond Brothers since 2008. Prior to working at Dimond Brothers, he worked at the Newton Agency in Mattoon, IL. Benjamin was a Chancellor in the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Basenji Rescue and Transport which provides safe harbors and strong anchors for Basenji canines set adrift. Benjamin had a passion for fishing and hunting, especially deer hunting. He loved his nephews with all his heart. Benjamin was a man full of life with an infectious smile and laugh who was taken too soon and will be greatly missed.

I am so sorry for the loss his family is feeling. With time the pain will lessen though it will never go away. I only hope the responsible party is caught and brought to justice.

What a great guy Ben was.... I am going to miss our talks on how the insurance business is "ever changing" You knew your job and did it well buddy! I am so sorry this happened and your family is in my prayers. Until we meet again Ben..RIP!
