MATTOON -- Scott Allan Sparks, age 43, of Mattoon passed away at 12:57 a.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Funeral services honoring his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor J. Michael Smith officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Scott was born on November 30, 1973 in Champaign, IL the son of Larry Paul and Joyce Louise (Leitch) Sparks.
Survivors include his parents, Larry and Joyce Sparks of Mattoon, IL; brothers, Eric Sparks (Megan Ryczek) of Oak Park, IL, Chad Sparks of Chicago, IL and Nick (Annah) Sparks of Washington, IL; nieces, Ella Sparks, Claire Sparks and Madeleine Sparks; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and canine companion, Molly. Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Madeline Sparks and Bill and Dorothy Leitch.
Scott was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mattoon. He worked for Stevens Industries in Effingham Illinois for the past six years. Scott was very active in politics, recently campaigning for Bernie Sanders. Scott loved the outdoors, camping and mountain biking. He enjoyed listening to music, playing pool, dominos, and cards with his friends Candy, George and Lorin. Scott will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
