MATTOON -- Virginia Pearl (Walker) Moritz, age 103 of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 10:40 A.M., Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Mattoon, IL.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL with Reverend Clyde Masten officiating. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Virginia was born on February 2, 1915 in Hillsboro, IL, the daughter of Ray and Charlotte (McKinney) Shouse. Virginia married Harlen Walker on March 17, 1935 in Mattoon, IL; he passed away in 1978. Virginia remarried Harold Moritz on July 28, 1991; he preceded her in death in 2011. Survivors include one son, Dennis Walker and wife Kathy of Mattoon, IL; one daughter-in-law, Bea Walker of Mattoon, IL; one son-in-law, Tom Degler of Arcola, IL; one brother, Lowell Shouse and wife Zelma of Windsor, IL; two sisters, Pauline Rymer of Tolono, IL, Mary Vogel and husband Robert of New Smyrna, FL; five grandchildren , Christopher Walker and wife Jill of Mattoon, IL, Steven Walker of Mattoon, IL, Aaron Degler and wife Kelly of Geneva, IL, Nathan Degler of Pesotum, IL, and Clint Walker of Mattoon, IL; three great-grandchildren , Wendy Walker, Clayton Walker, and Molly Walker. She is preceded in death by three sons, Rex Walker, Howard Walker, and Samuel Walker; one daughter, Peggy Degler; and one sister, Lorene Armstrong.

Virginia was an active member of the First Baptist Church for over eighty years, where she participated in numerous church functions and organizations. She helped out on the family farm, serving her delicious meals out in the field to fellow farmers and family members. Virginia enjoyed baking, knitting, quilting, and sewing clothing items for her loved ones. She was a dedicated viewer to the soap opera “As the World Turns”, and as a NASCAR fan, she enthusiastically cheered on Jeff Gordon. Virginia’s family was her pride and joy and they will miss her greatly.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Life’s Journey Senior Living staff for all the loving care shown towards Virginia.
