CHARLESTON — Dr. James Arthur Wallace was born on January 15, 1951, in Galveston, Texas. He transitioned on January 28, 2013. He grew up and attended schools in Galveston, Texas, and graduated from Ball High School in 1969. He received his bachelors degree from Blackburn college in Illinois, his masters degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, and his doctorate degree from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
James was a past professor at Southern Illinois University and was a professor at Eastern Illinois University at the time of his transition.
Dr. Wallace loved his students, whom he considered a part of his family. He was also very supportive of family and friends and wanted them to know that they were always in his heart.
James was predeceased by his parents Willie and Leola Wallace, and Erceline Boyd. His aunt and uncle Tressie and Clyde Bruton.
Dr.Wallace is survived by his son Wyatt A. Wallace of Los Angeles, Ca. His sister, Virtle Fowler (Muriel) of Friendswood, Tx., Henrietta Boyd, of LaMarque, Tx. Brothers, Willie Boyd of Houston, Tx. And Alonzo Boyd (Veronica) of laMarque, Tx. Two aunts Lois Clark of Hesperian, Ca. And Lola Lee of Los Angeles, Ca. Cousins Adonis Bruton, Barbara Carraway, Rhonda Alcorn, Vanessa Hearne, and Clyde Bruton, Sr. all of Texas City, Tx.
The memorial service honoring his life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Buzzard Hall Auditorium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.
