CHARLESTON -- Typically Valentine’s Day is a time of romance and roses, but EIU’s Doudna will make it a night of laughs and levity when the Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company presents an evening of improv comedy. Call your friends now and make plans to meet them on Feb. 14 at Eastern Illinois University’s Doudna Fine Arts Center in Charleston.
And since it is Valentine’s Day, the Doudna is offering a special Date Night dinner and ticket combo for two people. The dinner will take place in the Doudna from 6-7:15 p.m. prior to the UCB performance at 7:30 p.m. and features an Italian buffet including chicken parmesan, fettuccine alfredo, salad, green beans, bread sticks, beverage, and assorted desserts.
The Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Dvorak Concert Hall. Tickets for the one-night only performance are available at doudnatix.com, by phone at 217-581-3110, and at the Doudna Box Office.
The UCB touring show is a 90-minute, unscripted, and totally improvised comedy performance based on audience feedback. The improv stars will perform a high-energy and surprising show that has never been seen before and will never be seen again.
Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company brings the best improv comedians from the legendary Upright Citizens Brigade Theatres in New York and Los Angeles to new audiences around the country. The UCB Theatre, founded by Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh, has been home to some of the biggest stars in comedy today.
New York Magazine calls the group “the unofficial farm team for Saturday Night Live and every sitcom on TV.” UCB performers have brought their comedy talents to TV shows like “Broad City,” “Saturday Night Live,” “Silicon Valley,” “Veep,” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” and to films such as “Bridesmaids,” “The Hangover,” and “The Heat.” UCB members also grace the writing rooms of “Key and Peele,” “The Daily Show,” “Inside Amy Schumer,” and many more.
