SBL AdvantAge 50 Kickoff Party set

MATTOON -- The sixth annual SBL AdvantAge 50 “Kickoff Party” is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday in the Lumpkin Center for Health Education.

Troy Orwig, owner of News Travels and tour coordinator, will provide details for each trip and answer any questions participants may have. AdvantAge 50 trips planned for 2018 include the Chicago Flower show at Navy Pier; tour of the USS LST 325 landing craft and Reitz Home in Evansville, IN; an overnight trip to St. Charles, IL; 3 French Hens Country Market in Morris; a Mystery trip; The Cookery, Mortin, IL; an overnight trip to Galena, IL; a fall foliage lunch cruise out of Peroria, IL; the Indianapolis Christmas Gift and Hobby Show; a Christmas shopping trip as well as computer training classes involving Pinterest, Facebook and the SBL Patient Portal.

14th Annual 4-H Tack Auction to be held

MARSHALL -- The 14th annual Clark County 4-H Tack Auction will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Extension Office in Marshall. Doors will open at 3 p.m. to view items to be auctioned. The Extension Office is located south of Marshall on Illinois Route 1.

New tack and supplies will be supplied along with miscellaneous items consigned by Clark County 4-H’ers. Multiple raffles will be held during the auction with items being donated by area businesses and individuals. There will be a “super” raffle given away at the end of the auction. Recipients must be present to win.

Some of the items consigned and donated to be raffled or auctioned include a Cardinals game tickets, horse feed, gift certificates from various businesses including newspaper subscriptions, restaurants, gas and oil changes, saddle clubs, farriers, Chicagoland race tickets, Coggins testing from local veterinarians, a load of rock, hay, woodworking items, metal art and hair salons, just to mention a few. A concession stand will also be open during the event.

All proceeds go to benefit the Clark County 4-H Horse and Pony Program. Glo-Bingo to benefit Cumberland Class of 2020

TOLEDO -- The Cumberland PTO is sponsoring a Glo-Bingo fundraising event to benefit the Class of 2020 on Saturday at the Cumberland High School in Toledo. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with games beginning at 7 p.m.

A silent auction and concessions will be available. All bingo participants must be at least 18 years old. Tickets are $20 in advance and may be purchased in the high school office or online at glo-bingo.com, additional $2 fee. Price includes six bingo cards for ten games, glow dabber and glow hat.

Additional tickets will be available for purchase at the door.

Center for Children's Books book sale to be held

CHAMPAIGN -- The 2018 Center for Children's Books Book Sale will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Wednesday.

The Book Sale is located in the CCB, 501 E Daniel St. (Room 24), School of Information Sciences. Each spring, the Center for Children’s Books (CCB) hosts their annual book sale. For three days, they sell thousands of new children’s books for youth, ages birth through high school.

Their titles represent the full spectrum of children’s publishing in fiction and nonfiction: board books, picture books, easy and transitional readers, chapter books, series fiction, novels, activity books and kits, nonfiction series, mass-market paperbacks, and more.

Paperback books are $1 or $2 each, hardcover books are $5 each, and individual items are priced as marked. All proceeds support the Center for Children’s Books and  The Bulletin of The Center for Children’s Books.
