Workshops to be held for those with Diabetes
CHARLESTON -- Diabetes is on the rise, but can be a very manageable illness. If you or someone you care for has diabetes or is pre-diabetic, why not learn how to more effectively “take charge” and live an active and fulfilling life?
"Take Charge of Your Diabetes: The Diabetes Self-Management Program" is designed to teach diabetics tools and techniques to help them become better health managers. Classes are highly interactive and are taught by certified facilitators Cheri Burcham with University of Illinois Extension and Sheila Greuel with Covenant Transitions.
Classes will be offered Thursday afternoons March 8-April 12 from 1–3:30 p.m. at the LifeSpan Center of Coles County located outside of Mattoon. Subjects covered include healthy eating, stress management, exercise and physical activity, carb counting, monitoring blood sugar, medication management, working effectively with medical providers and much more.
There is no cost for participants who complete the series due to funding by the U.S. Administration on Community Living. Registration is required by contacting the Coles County Extension Office at 217-345-7034 or by e-mailing Burcham at firstname.lastname@example.org.
