NEOGA -- At the close of the annual Sew Happy Hearts quilt show, two “Viewers Choice” winners were announced out of about 125 quilt entries.

One of the two first-place quilt winners was a Broken Star quilt owned by Janet Probst from Teutopolis and pieced by Rosie Westendorf, who also helped quilt the project. The other first-place winner was Sharon White, a Sew Happy Hearts club member from Sullivan, whose entry was titled “Hopi Basket".

There were also two youth “Viewers Choice” winners: Joleen Deters from Sigel with a Jelly Roll Race quilt and Makayla Richey of Mattoon with her Rail Fence quilt.

The winner of the Log Cabin raffle quilt was Sew Happy Hearts club member Marianne Morgan of Mattoon. This quilt was pieced by club members Rosie Westendorf and Janet Patterson and was quilted by Sylvia Dust of Effingham. Proceeds from the raffle quilt go toward working on charity projects throughout the year.

Sew Happy Hearts has 36 members from surrounding communities: Neoga, Sigel, Effingham, Mattoon, Sullivan, Savoy, Gays and Charleston. Meetings are held at the Neoga Municipal Building on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.
