CHARLESTON — Eastern Illinois University’s School of Continuing Education’s Academy of Lifetime Learning has been chosen to receive three first place statewide awards from the Illinois Lifelong Learning Services Coalition at their annual summit in Bloomington.

Dean of the School of Continuing Education William Hine and Janna Overstreet, project coordinator, accepted the awards on behalf of EIU as presented by Michael Gelder, acting director, Illinois Department of Aging, and George Reid, executive director, Illinois Board of Higher Education.

The Academy of Lifetime Learning was awarded first place Outstanding Lifelong Learning Professor, Outstanding Lifelong Learning Volunteer and Flyer/Brochure presentation for the fall 2011 program guide.

Alan Baharlou received the Outstanding Lifelong Learning Professor award for his reputation among students, peers and staff as extremely supportive and for his positive insight in the most challenging situations.

Lillian Greathouse was awarded Outstanding Lifelong Learning Volunteer for her leadership roles, loyalty to the Academy and overall encouragement of fellow members.

Dean William Hine said about the awards from the Illinois Lifelong Services Coalition that “Dr. Baharlou and Dr. Greathouse bring honor to EIU and the Academy of Lifetime Learning. We are very excited for Dr. Baharlou and Dr. Greathouse, for they have made outstanding contributions over many years to EIU.”
