Recovering America's Religious Heritage lessons set
EFFINGHAM -- Delaine Donaldson will be sharing a series of six lessons on "Recovering America's Religious Heritage" at First Christian Church, 901 N. Henrietta St.
In these sessions, Donaldson will be teaching about the role of the Christian faith in the establishment of the United States. Every Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. from March 14 to March 28, he will present an hour talk on these events.

Murder Mystery Dinner planned
CHARLESTON -- It’s the 100th birthday of The Godfather, Don Cannoli Tortellini Pimento Clamato. Everyone wants to take over the family, but who should he put in charge?

Young men event to be held at First Baptist
MATTOON -- On Sunday the First Baptist Church of Mattoon will host a special event titled “God, Girls, and the Phone in Your Pocket.”
Young men in grades six through 12 are invited to attend this event which begins at 3 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. There will be four discussion sessions with games and food in the break times. The discussions will center on developing the right relationships with God, friends, elders, girls, and families. Personal priorities and the influence of media and culture will also be addressed.

Ministers in training to conduct service
CHARLESTON -- This Sunday, Pastor Tom Skinner will be involved with the Men's Great Banquet at Camp New Hope and will not be speaking at Friendship Baptist Church that morning or evening.
Two of their ministers in training will be bringing the morning and evening messages. Brother Blake Sponsel will be speaking at the 10:30 a.m. service and Brother Jamey Cohoon will be speaking that Sunday evening at 6 p.m.
Pastor Tom invites everyone to come and hear these two men of God working their way into the place of service God has planned for them.

Lenten Retreat to be held at Sacred Heart
EFFINGHAM -- Join Sacred Heart in Effingham for the Sacred Heart Lenten Retreat, “Be a Disciple from the Womb to the Tomb”, set for March 12-14 at 6:30 p.m. in the church.
The Rev. Chuck Edwards of St. Anthony of Padua Parish will lead the retreat, which focuses on the call to discipleship and stewardship throughout everyone's lives.
On Monday, March 12, they'll kick off the retreat at 5 p.m. with a Soup Social, “Fill your Stomach; Feed your Soul,” in the parish center. Join them for homemade soups, crackers/breads, and drinks to satisfy human hunger before feeding religious hunger with Fr. Chuck’s presentation in the church at 6:30 p.m.
Tuesday, March 13, they'll continue with spiritual reflection at 6:30 p.m. in church, and then area priests will administer the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
The concluding presentation will take place on Wednesday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. and includes an all-parish Mass. The usual 8:30 a.m. Wednesday Mass will not be held this day so all can plan to celebrate the Holy Eucharist at the evening Mass.

Christians Praying for Charleston event set
CHARLESTON -- Christians Praying for Charleston will meet Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at New Life Tabernacle Church at Fourth and Monroe.
This is a non-denominational outreach of Christians who trust the Lord for answered prayer seeking God's blessings and protection over our schools, churches, law enforcement, courts and judges, first responders, EIU administration, professors and National Guard, plus federal and state government and military serving around the world and protecting our nation.

Family Fellowship Fundraiser Meal & Trivia Night set
SULLIVAN -- Sullivan Church of God will be having a special spaghetti dinner to help send their children and youth to camp. The dinner will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday. There is no charge to eat, but they will be accepting donations in any amount to help achieve this goal.
Trivia will also be held during this dinner from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Teams must consist of two to four people, and the winning team will receive a special prize. If you would like to donate food or volunteer for this event, there is a sign-up sheet on the Children’s Ministry Board in the hallway. The donated food helps keep the initial costs down for these dinners. Everything except the potatoes was donated for the baked potato bar.

Chosen Ones to perform at First Christian
MARTINSVILLE -- Gospel music recording artists The Chosen Ones will perform at 6:30 p.m. March 18 at the First Christian Church, 324 N. York St.
The Chosen Ones are celebrating over 40 years in gospel music, having sung throughout the United States and abroad, performing over 150 personal appearances annually. They have released over 30 recordings, which have included four national radio releases. Their latest recording, "Future Generations" was released June 2016.
