Vacation Bible School to be held at Wesley United Methodist

CHARLESTON -- This year’s VBS will be "Maker Fun Factory." There will be a Family Fun Kick-off from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2206 Fourth St. There will be inflatables, games, food and a dunk tank. Monday through Thursday VBS will be held from 6-8 p.m.

Attending Maker Fun Factory will help kids discover they are lovingly crafted by God, according to a press release. On this interactive adventure, curious kids become hands-on inventors and experience God, the Ultimate Maker, in new and creative ways. Kids will learn one important Bible point each day which is reinforced through Bible adventures, key Bible verses, songs, snacks and hands-on explorations.

Ice Cream Social to be held at Faith Lutheran

SHUMWAY -- Faith Lutheran Church of Shumway will hold their annual Ice Cream Social from 4-7:30 p.m. Sunday. Faith is located on Highway 33. The menu will consist of homemade ice cream, BBQ, hot dogs, pie, cake, and drinks. This event is free but will feature a free-will offering.

All proceeds will go to benefit the Barber family, a member of Faith congregation, to defray the ongoing medical costs of Gary’s illnesses.

First Southern Baptist Church to hold Vacation Bible School

MATTOON -- Mattoon’s First Southern Baptist Church will hold a week of Vacation Bible School in Lytle and Peterson parks beginning Sunday, July 9, through Thursday, July 13. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade are welcome.

There will be Bible stories and lessons, games, music, crafts and snacks beginning each night at 6:30-8 p.m. Friday night will be family night and the groups will meet with families in the fellowship hall of First Southern Baptist at 2521 DeWitt Ave. for food and fellowship at 6 p.m.

Christians Praying for Charleston and beyond to be held

CHARLESTON -- Christians Praying for Charleston will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Morton Park South Pavilion in Charleston.

This is a call for Christians of all denominations to meet the scripture demands in Matthew 17:21, "However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."

Participants will pray for city officials, law enforcement members both city and county, courts in deciding the many cases of all kinds, schools from the pre-school students up through those attending EIU, school administrations, families, especially those with single parent homes, and churches that proclaim the Gospel as directed by the Word of God "The Holy Bible." Also the first responders, military -- both Illinois National Guard and all branches of our US military -- lawmakers in Springfield and in Washington, and courts through the Supreme Court down will be noted in prayer.

Registration open for Secure Conference for Girls

SULLIVAN -- Solid Rock Chapel, at 1213 E Jackson St., will host the Secure Conference for Girls on July 14 and 15.

This is an overnight/sleepover event with teaching, games, crafts and more. Registration is required and is $20 for a single registration and $15 per person for family registration. This includes a T-Shirt, food and a gift.

Worship Center plans Vacation Bible School, pool party

MATTOON -- Grab your cape and head out to the Family Worship Center's Hero Central Vacation Bible School this summer from 5-8 p.m. July 14 and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. July 15, for children preschool through fifth grade.
