Blessings in a Backpack Fundraiser to be held

EFFINGHAM -- A Blessings in a Backpack Fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at VFW Post 1769, 2304 S. Veterans Drive.

Admission is  free. They will have a raffle of items donated by crafters and vendors. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to Blessings in a Backpack. The VFW auxiliary will have food available.

Shumway Freedomfest planned Saturday

SHUMWAY -- Shumway Freedom House Food and Clothing Pantry, located at 304 Southwest St., will be celebrating its fifth year and will be hosting a Freedomfest Event for everyone on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

The event will feature a free cookout, kids' corner (bounce houses, face painting, bowling, bubble fun) and live music all afternoon before starting the food and clothing pantry. At that time, they will have snow cones and cotton candy.

Cookout and Silent Auction to be held

MATTOON -- East Side Church of the Nazarene, located at 2129 S. Ninth St., will host a Cookout and Silent Auction for Missions at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Eagle's Wings to perform in Effingham

EFFINGHAM -- Local gospel quartet Eagle's Wings will present a concert at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Cross at the Crossroads in Effingham. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. If there is inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the chapel inside the Welcome Center.

A free-will offering will be taken during the concert to assist in the cross campus expansion project. Information on the concert can be found on Facebook at "The Cross in Effingham."

Homecoming Gospel Choir to perform

CHARLESTON -- The Homecoming Gospel Choir will be at East Harrison Street Church of God, 17996 Harrison Street Road, at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Southern Illinois Gospel Music Ministry (SIGMM) is a ministry outreach created for the purpose of presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ through the avenue of southern gospel music to those who reside in southern Illinois and the surrounding region.

Three separate but closely intertwined ministry efforts, the Homecoming Gospel Choir, the Gospel Concert Series, and Sunday Morning Gospel are included under the umbrella of SIGMM.

The Down East Boys to perform

ROYAL -- National recording artists The Down East Boys from Reidsville, N.C., will be performing in concert at St. John Lutheran Church, 203 E Church St., on at 6 p.m. Sunday. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The Down East Boys have received 2017 Dove Award nominations for both Album of the Year and Song of the Year. No tickets are required for this event, no admission is charged at the door, and a free-will offering will be taken.
