PARIS -- St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Paris is reviving its annual Family Fall Festival for the entire community. The family-friendly day of entertainment and fun is set for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 9 at 614 North Main St. at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
According to a press release, this event features a BBQ cook off. For tasting, contestants will provide their prized BBQ of any or all categories of beef, pork or poultry. Ticket holders will be provided a taste of all entries and vote for their favorite BBQ in all three categories.
Besides bragging rights, cash prizes for the most votes in each of the three categories will be beef -- $125; pork -- $100; poultry -- $75. Festival goers will also be provided with a sloppy joe sandwich or hot dog, locally grown sweet corn, chips, dessert and drink. Beer, wine and soda will be available.
Activities will include live music, kid games, bouncy house, obstacle course house, and 50/50 raffles. The Coon Holler Kids, keeping the spirit of traditional bluegrass alive for the next generation and beyond, will provide live entertainment from 4-5 p.m.
Next up, the “Dirt Dwellers”, an up and coming modern country band, will introduce themselves by playing from 5:15-7 p.m. Local musician Stewart Arp will play from 7-8 p.m. A live auction will be conducted and a silent auction will be open until 8 p.m.
Parishioners are selling tickets and tickets are available from the parish office and will be available at the festival. Ticket prices are $10 for ages 10 and over; $5 for ages 3 through 9; and free for ages 2 and under. Ticket stubs will be drawn for monetary prizes.
Inside the hall, from 8:30-11 p.m., the popular 71 Band will be playing a wide range of dancing music from the '50s and '60s rock ‘n' roll to country. There is a $5 cover charge.
