MATTOON — Easter celebrations at the First Baptist Church in Mattoon will begin with an Easter Breakfast served between 7 and 9 a.m. in the church Fellowship Hall.

The breakfast will be served by the American Baptist Men; tickets are $5 and $3 and are available at the door.

The 8 a.m. service will be led by the church youth, with Austin Sherman bringing the message.

At the 10 a.m. service, the Chancel Choir will present “Upon This Rock,” a cantata by Pepper Choplin which tells the Easter story from the perspective of the Apostle Peter.

The 50-voice choir is directed by Carol Mausehund and accompanied by Rachel Warfel.

Thad Brimner will portray Peter; narrator will be the Rev. Robert Clark. Soloists include Rex Cooper, Clint Mausehund, Brian Johanpeter, Ardys Carpenter, Mary Doty and Valerie Thornton.

The service will also include the Sacred Tones Handbell Choir directed by Melissa Etchison; and Ballet Emmanuel directed by Elizabeth Ramsey and Rachel Smith.

The Rev. Dennis Strawn is the senior pastor of the church, which is located at 1804 S. Ninth St., Mattoon, and is handicapped accessible from the south parking lot.
