MATTOON -- The Lions Club recently heard a guest presentation from Coles County Board member Paul Daily regarding the ongoing commercial property reassessment.
Daily explained that the county has been divided into four sections, with dates scheduled for the reassessment to take place in each section. Daily discussed some of the procedures and authority that the supervisor of assessments and the Board of Review have in regard to asking for a change in assessed property taxes.
The guest speaker said changes to assessed values of commercial property could have some affect on assessed values of residential property. He said commercial property should be reassessed each four years, but this has not been done in the past 10 years. He said this delay has created the urgency to get the reassessment done.
Daily is a past president of the Mattoon school board and of the Coles County Farm Bureau Board.
