CHARLESTON -- The annual Senior Expo will be hosted by the Coles County Council on Aging at your LifeSpan Center on May 7.
The Senior Expo is free to attend and will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Senior Expo is sponsored by the council as well as, Carriage Crossing, Harbor Light Hospice, Lincolnland Home Care and Hospice, and Gowin Parc.
Come out and visit the booths of more than 40 vendors in attendance from 9 a.m. to noon. There will also be entertainment available. At 9:30-10 a.m., Douglas Hart Nature Center will be giving a nature presentation and the Barbershop Quartet will perform from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.
LV Fitness will offer an educational seminar from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on the importance of exercise and balance in regards to fall prevention.
There will be a complimentary lunch provided to the first registered 200 older adults 50 years old or older. No advanced registration will be taken. One outdoor garden swing will be raffled in a grand prize drawing along with drawings for two additional $50 gift cards. Individuals must be present to win. Also, there will be complimentary cupcakes and coffee provided. There will be other door prizes and popcorn available, too.
Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center will be offering bingo with prizes. State of Illinois Comptroller Judy Barr Topinka will have the Check for Cash booth setup. Check for Cash searches thousands of uncashed state checks to see if those in attendance are owed money. For those who are owed money, the retrieval process is started right then. The Lions Club will have their hearing screening bus available for individuals to be screened.
The Coles County Health Department will be available to administer health screenings including checking blood pressure and a coronary risk assessment. The coronary risk assessment test will cost $20 and individuals must fast for 12 hours prior to the test.
Door prizes will also be given away. Anyone in need of transportation to the Senior Expo can call Dial-A-Ride at 217-639-5169 in advance to reserve ride.
