Alpha Upsilon to meet Tuesday
The regular business meeting for Alpha Upsilon Chapter of ESA will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, in the YMCA Community Room.
Members should notify President Suzi Coffman if they are unable to attend.
Redhawk District Cub Scout to hold Pinewood Derby
The Redhawk District Cub Scouts will hold a Pinewood Derby Race at the Cross County Mall Saturday.
The races will be scheduled as follows:
- Webelos, 9 a.m. with weigh-in from 8:30-8:59 a.m.;
- Tiger, 10:30 a.m. with weigh-in from 10-10:29 a.m.;
- Wolf, 1 p.m. with weigh-in from 12:30-12:59 p.m.
- Bear, 2:30 p.m. with weigh-in at 2-2:29 p.m.;
- Open race to follow last race.
The district covers areas from Mattoon south/east to Robinson, including five counties.
Project Graduation meeting set at MHS
A Mattoon High School Project Graduation parent informational meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the MHS library. Parents should enter through the South 27th Street door.
Project Graduation is an all-night, substance-free celebration hosted by the parents and guardians of MHS seniors for the graduating class. The event will be held at Lake Land College on graduation night, which is May 24.
Some of the highlights of the evening include free food and drinks, casino games, DJ with dancing and karaoke, contests and generous prizes. One graduate will win a new 2013 Hyundai car.
All senior parents are invited and encouraged to attend to become involved in this event for the MHS Class of 2013.
Lego Club to meet
The Charleston Carnegie Public Library’s Lego Club will meet from 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Lego Club is for children in kindergarten and up, as long as they no longer put small toys in their mouth. An adult must attend with children under 8.
Adults may build with the children, read, chat or join a parent team and challenge your kids to a build-off.
Between 5 - 5:30 p.m., after clean-up, builders will have the opportunity to “Show and Tell” and admire everyone’s skill and imagination.

Astronomy Night set at Charleston library
The Charleston Carnegie Public Library will be hosting our February Astronomy Night at 7 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.
Winter’s cold weather can produce some amazingly clear skies for star gazing.
This drop-in event will meet at the back of the library’s parking lot where telescopes will be set up for participants’ celestial viewing.
This program is open to all ages, but ages 12 and under will need to attend with an adult. The program is free and does not require a library card or registration.
Dress for cooler temperatures, but the library will be open if needed to warm up.

PCH Volunteers’ Chocolate Sale set
The Paris Community Hospital Volunteers will sponsor its annual Valentine’s South Bend Chocolate Company sale, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, near the FMC rotunda entrance.
Nearly 70 varieties of gourmet chocolates and snacks will be available in bulk. Items will include award-winning sauces, salsas, and jams made by Kathy’s Kitchen.
Other items will include pecan caramel patties, chocolate blueberries, chocolate caramels, mint meltaways, chocolate-covered peanuts, and much more. A selection of sugar-free items also will be available.
Cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted.
Blood drives set
Two chances to give blood are scheduled in upcoming days.
A blood drive with the American Red Cross will be held from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday at Eastern Illinois University ballroom in Charleston.
Donors may also give blood at a drive set from 1-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Burgess-Osborne Auditorium in Mattoon. This drive is sponsored by The Axe, WMCI and The Party radio stations.
Pegtown to meet Wednesday
The Pegtown Women’s Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pagliacci’s.
