CASEY (JG-TC) — The identity of the body of a woman found near Interstate 70 near Casey Friday afternoon has not yet been determined but her death is being investigated as a homicide, according to Clark County’s coroner.
An autopsy that took place Saturday indicated a homicide, Coroner Jeff Pearce said. He wouldn’t comment when asked if there were any indications of the cause of the woman’s death.
Illinois Department of Transportation workers found the body near the westbound entrance to the interstate immediately north of Casey, according to police.
Pearce said it appears the woman might have been in her early 30s. A definite identification could take some time because of the body’s condition based on the amount of time it was apparently at the location, he said.
Illinois State Police are leading the continuing investigation, Pearce also said.
