Music conference

Twenty-two Charleston High School students, including those shown here, are among those attending the 2018 Illinois Music Education Conference in Peoria. The students were selected to attend the event based on audition performances.


CHARLESTON (JG-TC) -- Twenty-two Charleston High School music students and five from Jefferson Elementary School were scheduled to attend the Illinois Music Education Conference this week.

The high school students auditioned for the Peoria conference and were selected to perform in music ensembles.

The CHS students selected were Brandon Ingram, Elliott Winkleblack, Keegan Noll, Matthew Mueller, Lucas Hawk, Nico Walters, Sterling Stowell, Katy Stokes, Savannah Vandeveer, Norah Blanche, Chase Bosler, Kennedy Tozer, Remington Neal, Cameron Fisher, Karly Coffey, Ashlyn Bayer, June Baumann, Emily Zuniga, Kelly Drake, Katherine Bates, Eric Poe, Jack Thain and Francesca Diaz.

The Jefferson students attending the conference will perform in the All-State Elementary Choir. They are Seth Anderson, Norah Gannaway, Brennah Gerdes, Max Hutti and Lucas Neal.

More than 1,300 selected musicians representing over 300 high schools across Illinois were chosen to take part in the Wednesday-Saturday festival and conference.

During the week, students will attend rehearsals with nationally known conductors, attend a college fair and attend several concerts. Student performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Music teachers from various Illinois schools also attend the conference and take part in various workshops, training seminars, musical performances and continuing education classes.
