CHARLESTON (JG-TC) -- Access to a property fraud prevention service is available through the Coles County Clerk's Office's website.
County Clerk Sue Rennels said she wanted to let property owners know about the service, which she said will alert the owner of possible fraudulent activity.
She said she hasn't heard of any local incident of such property fraud but wanted to provide information about because it's relatively new.
Rennels said the service won't prevent fraudulent activity but it can give property owners enough advance notice to take action needed as a result.
She said there's no fee for the service, called the Property Fraud Alert Hotline.
She said interested property owners can also call her office at 217-348-0525 or 217-348-7325 and can also register by calling 800-728-3858.
