MATTOON (JG-TC) -- Police officers arrested a homeless man Wednesday evening who allegedly pushed a shelter volunteer and resisted arrested.

A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that David M. Parker, 31, was arrested on charges of battery and resisting/obstructing a police officer at the Mattoon Area PADS homeless shelter, 2017 Broadway Ave.

The charges allege that Parker was an overnight guest at the PADS shelter on Wednesday when he became agitated and physically pushed a volunteer who was working there and  who was attempting to help Parker at that time. After police officers were called to the scene, Parker also allegedly resisted their efforts to remove him from the shelter and to arrest him.

Parker was taken to the Coles County jail.
