DECATUR -- Police are investigating after a Windsor man was found shot to death in Decatur on Sunday morning.

Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland said in a news release that the body of 22-year-old Zachary W. Hubbartt was discovered inside a vacant house in the 1200 block of East Condit Street. Police patrol officers had been dispatched there about 10:30 a.m.

“Officers found a deceased 22-year-old male Windsor resident who appeared to have suffered numerous gunshot wounds,” added Copeland.

“Detectives processed the residence as well as a vehicle parked outside for evidence. At this time, there is no suspect information.”

The house where the body was found was empty, and the top of the roof was missing as the result of a fire.

Copeland said police are looking for help to solve the case and appealed for anyone with information to call detectives at 217-424-2734 or Crimestoppers at 217-423-TIPS.

In a statement Sunday night, Macon County Coroner Michael E. Day said Hubbartt died from "apparent gunshot trauma" and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning at the McLean County Coroner's Morgue in Bloomington.

"The forensic examination will document the injuries and hopefully assist in the investigation into this violent crime," said Day. "Preliminary autopsy results will be released when feasible."
