MATTOON (JG-TC) -- Police officers have arrested a local man on a charge of stealing hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise from Walmart during the course of about two months.
A Mattoon Police Department press release reported that Eddie L. Brown, 34, of Mattoon was arrested on a charge of burglary. The arrest occurred at 5:07 p.m. Wednesday at the police station.
The charge alleges that Brown stole merchandise from Walmart during numerous occasions from December until recently, merchandise that totaled hundreds of dollars. He was taken to the Coles County jail.
In other matters, Keon D. Cooper, 26, of Chicago was arrested on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender. The arrest occurred at 3:17 p.m. Wednesday at the Coles County Courthouse in Charleston. The charge alleges that Cooper failed to meet time requirements in registering a new address while being a registered sex offender. Cooper was taken to the jail.
Separately, Eduardo O. Cavazos, 25, of Arcola was arrested on a charge of unlawful use of a credit card. The arrest occurred at 7:46 p.m. Wednesday at the police station. The charge alleges that Cavazos used another person’s credit card information on Feb. 8 to obtain goods and services, and did so without the knowledge or consent of the card holder. Cavazos was taken to the jail.
