CHARLESTON (JG-TC) — The Eastern Illinois University Board of Trustees approved multiple agenda items during its scheduled meeting Friday.

A Resolution of Permanence for the Tarble Arts Center was one of the approved action items. Pat Early, assistant vice president for communications and marketing at Eastern, said the resolution of for Tarble was put into place to make sure the collections at Tarble will not be looked at as disposable assets.

“These are collection items that will stay at the Tarble Arts Center,” Early said.

Another approved agenda item was a labor agreement for Laborers’ Local No. 159.

According to the board report, a tentative agreement was reached for the labor agreement on Oct. 31. The pact involved wages, length of agreement and furlough language. The agreement was ratified by the union on Nov. 1. There are five members in the bargaining unit, and the agreement is to last from July 1 through June 30, 2016.

The last agenda item that was discussed at the Friday meeting was a proposed revision to a board regulation regarding public comments.

According to Early, the regulation has to do with not allowing public comments on a disputed topic that is addressed elsewhere. The trustees want to do away with the regulation.

“When there was a disputed topic addressed elsewhere, it wasn’t eligible for public comments and no other university in the state had such a restriction,” Early said. “The board felt that the proposal was to eliminate the restriction and bring it into line with the other universities.”

Early said the board will conduct a final vote on the matter in January.
