(JG-TC) -- Heavy flurries are expected to start at 6 p.m. Monday and continue through midnight, with snow accumulating throughout Central Illinois in the evening hours, the National Weather Service said.

About 1 inch is projected in Mattoon and Charleston, the weather service said Monday afternoon.

Further north, more than 400 flights were canceled at O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport as the storm headed into the Chicago region. As much as 6 inches of snow is expected there.

Another storm system on Tuesday is expected to bring light snow, with additional flurries possible later in the week.

A high of 24 degrees is forecast Tuesday.
