MATTOON (JG-TC) — Heavy fog and a distracted driver were blamed for a four-vehicle accident on Illinois Route 16 in front of Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center Wednesday morning.
An Illinois State Police squad car was stopped at the traffic light with three vehicles behind it in the westbound lanes when an oncoming vehicle hit the rear vehicle just before 7:30 a.m., according to a state police news release.
The state police trooper, Kevin L. Kersey of Ashmore, wasn’t injured but the other three drivers were taken to SBLHC and later released, the news release said.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the others, Alisha N. Terrell, 29, of Mattoon, was distracted by a phone call and the heavy fog Wednesday morning, the release said. It said she was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no valid driver’s license.
The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately behind the state police squad car was identified as Linda M. Burns, 53, of Kansas, and the rear driver that was stopped was identified as Jing Zhang, 18, of Charleston.
Traffic was routed off Route 16 while the accident was under investigation.
