MATTOON (JG-TC) -- A Coles County Master Gardener is scheduled to discuss ideas for enhancing spring lawn care during a noon hour program on Wednesday (March 7) at the Mattoon Public Library.

Participants are invited bring their lunch or enjoy light refreshments during this presentation by Master Gardener Paul Icenogle, who spent 18 years caring for the Lake Land College grounds.

“A green lawn is like the nice matte color in a painting,” Icenogle said in the event press release. “With a nice, lush lawn, you can enhance the rest of your yard.”

The program is part of the library’s event series that features local and regional programs representing a variety of interests.

“Paul’s passion for lawns and related issues becomes contagious,” library Director Carl Walworth said in the press release. “He is a great resource for everything from basic lawn care to those planning more elaborate features. The noon hour time slot is designed to be convenient and to easily fit into the workday.”

During the presentation, Icenogle will talk about the importance of lawn foundation. Icenogle said a strong foundation opens the possibilities for other amenities or features that make a robust lawn. Icenogle also plans to discuss best practices to address a variety of lawn care matters. He said all of the materials needed to make a lawn great are also available locally, so nothing is too difficult to find.

“Paul is knowledgeable in all areas related to lawn care and thus we are excited to offer him as a resource for your lawn care and gardening needs,” Walworth said.
