OAKLAND (JG-TC) -- Runners and spectators are invited to take part in the inaugural Independent Mud Run obstacle course race and other festivities Saturday morning at Independence Pioneer Village.
The 5-kilometer Mud Run is scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in wooded terrain at the village, located along the Walnut Point road on the north side of Oakland. Registration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the village pavilion. An opening ceremony is planned for 9:45 a.m.
A craft tent will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the village square and a blacksmith will demonstrate his work at his nearby shop. Chili and hot dogs will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A disc jockey will play bluegrass music and announce race updates. The awards ceremony at 1 p.m. will be followed by a bluegrass and gospel performance by Maddie Flesner of Kansas at 1:45 p.m.
