CHARLESTON (JG-TC) -- A shredded note, which included a sketch of and mention of a gun, found Tuesday afternoon in a bathroom at Charleston High School was deemed no threat to anyone, officials said.
In a statement on the school district's Facebook page, Charleston school leaders said at approximately 1:30 p.m., the administration was notified that the note was found and included a "crude sketch of and mention of a gun" and it warranted investigation.
The district statement said the note did not include a threat to students or staff, but law enforcement was contacted; authorities investigated the note and conducted a threat assessment but concluded it did not warrant a lockdown or other cause for concern.
"School officials will provide updated information as necessary based on new developments," the afternoon statement read.
Superintendent Todd Vilardo said early Tuesday evening the district had no further information to report.
The incident comes nearly six months after a shooting that injured one student occurred at Mattoon High School, and just weeks after a social media threat to MHS resulted in the arrest of a female juvenile. She is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
