CHARLESTON (JG-TC) -- Three Charleston High School speech team members reached varsity event finals at a tournament at Normal Community West High School on Saturday.
The varsity finalists for CHS included Emma Banyai, who took first place in the radio speaking category. She was also fifth in impromptu speaking.
Other varsity members who reached the finals were Michael Grovier, second in special occasion speaking, and Eric Poe, fourth in humorous interpretation.
In junior varsity competition, Taylor Fleming took third in dramatic interpretation, Madi Colman was fourth in oratorical declamation, D'Arcy Johnson took fourth in dramatic interpretation and Emily Gawel was seventh in oratorical declamation.
CHS finished eighth overall at the 19-team tournament.
