CHARLESTON -- A woman was arrested on Wednesday after police say she admitted leaving her 2-year-old son unattended for three days, leading to the child's death.
Savannah M. Weiss, 22, of Charleston was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, according to a Charleston Police Department news release.
The release said the boy's death was discovered on Monday, when emergency crews responded to a report of an unresponsive child at 1052 First St., Charleston. The child was dead at the scene, it said.
Weiss was later questioned and admitted to police that she left the boy unattended in a crib from Friday through Sunday, the release stated. It said an autopsy found that the cause of death was dehydration and malnourishment, it said.
Weiss is currently jailed without bond pending a court appearance and the filing of formal charges. The news release indicated that authorities plan to announce more details later today.
