I simply must question Eastern Illinois University’s strategic plan for improving enrollment. In recent weeks, EIU has hosted the State Badminton Tournament, Girl’s State Track and Boy’s State Track. Each week has brought a large amount of participants from State High Schools as well as parents and family members. What a fantastic opportunity for EIU to roll out the red carpet, to set up welcome areas, curriculum displays, informational grab bags, tours and additional resources to sell EIU when potential students are on campus. Yet, during these events, the campus was silent? The gym was vacant, the Fitness Center floor empty (except for the Badminton Tournament) and the indoor track under utilized. I understand students are gone for the summer, professors are on vacation but with a dwindling enrollment one would think EIU would find a way to take advantage of hosting these events by making the participation a total immersion in the EIU environment. I encourage EIU to consider taking advantage of these on-campus opportunities in future planning.
